Meet the Certified Nurse-Midwives of Goshen Birth Center
Goshen Birth Center partners with midwives in the community who are interested in providing safe out of hospital birth options for women in the area. Below are the options for midwifery practices currently partnering with GBC.
Sacred Journey Midwifery
Lauren Cox, CNM, has been a midwife for 2 years and attended over 150 births. She graduated from Bethel College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2014. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse before returning for a master’s degree. She graduated from Frontier Nursing university in 2018 with a Masters of Science in Nursing. She is board certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board. For the past two years, she has worked in full-scope midwifery practice, attending births at the Goshen Birth Center and Goshen Hospital. During the past two years she has obtained
certifications in Fertility Education and Medical Management (FEMM) and Clinical Homeopathy. She decided to start a private practice because she is passionate about education, spending time with clients and getting to know them better personally, and supporting the normal process of birth in the community setting. She looks forward to continuing to serve women and families in this new role and is excited to continue birth at the Goshen Birth Center.
Betsy McCanse, CNM, has been in the “birth world” since 2003. She started her journey as a childbirth educator teaching Bradley classes, became certified as a doula through DONA, Int in 2005, and then started her trek to become a Certified Nurse Midwife through the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has been practicing as a midwife in the Goshen area since 2013, providing full-scope midwifery care for women across their lifespans, and at Goshen Birth Center and Goshen Hospital has caught over 450 babies and provided labor support to them and many others whose babies have been caught by students or ended up with cesareans. She has been a preceptor to student nurse midwives since 2015. Additionally, Betsy has taken a course in Mayan Abdominal Massage Self-Care, and is certified in K-taping for pregnancy/postpartum and clinical homeopathy. She is passionate about holding the space for women to enable birth to be an empowering experience, and in taking part in shared decision making in healthcare throughout women’s lives. She finds year-round joy in blues and swing dancing, and tent camping in the warm months.
